One of my favorite projects in my time as Communications and Editorial Associate at the Social Science Research Council is a recent redesign of their montly newsletter, Council Update. The existing design had been passed down to succesive staff members for many years, and I decided it could use a facelift. After consulting with senior management, I realized the aesthetic of the e-mail wasn't the only thing that could use improvement. Previously, for example, the content had to be loaded and formatted manually with HTML. Not only is this time-consuming, it requires someone with the right skills to do it, and has a higher potential for client compatibility problems.
So, I leveraged Campaign Monitor's client management and template systems to streamline this monthly workflow. Using template tagging, I created a powerful template that can accomodate various content layouts, and can be loaded using the Campaign Monitor WYSIWYG. Don't worry—we tested it extensivley for email client and browser support.
I've also been able to use the same template to meet the e-mail needs of other programs and departments at the Council, thus eliminating the need to have an HTML-savvy staff member in order to send great-looking e-mails.
